The last stretch of school commencement ceremonies are underway, and many graduating students are accepting their diplomas virtually. In honor of this, YouTube hosted “Dear Class of 2020” this weekend, a virtual multi-hour commencement special for this year’s graduates. The event featured a star-studded lineup of performers including Katy Perry and BTS, as well as speeches from Beyoncé and Michelle and Barack Obama, among others. Many of the addresses included poignant words on why students should feel hopeful and proud of their accomplishments, despite entering the workforce during these difficult times. “Congratulations to the class of 2020, you have arrived here in the middle of a global crisis, a racial pandemic, and worldwide expression of outrage at the senseless killing of yet another unarmed Black human being,” Beyoncé said in her speech, acknowledging the past week’s protests over the senseless killing of George Floyd. “And you still made it, we’re so proud of you.”
