When the duchess was asked about her half sister, Samantha, who frequently talks to the media, she replied, “I don’t feel comfortable talking about people who I really don’t know.” She added that the last time she saw Samantha must have been 18 or 19 years ago. In response to a question about Samantha’s recent “tell-all” book, Markle said, “I think it would be very hard to tell all when you don’t know me.”
The couple also spoke about how the coverage around Meghan was different from that surrounding any royal before. First was her nationality: being American, the couple said, led to increased global interest. Second was social media use, which is much more popular now than it was when, say, Prince William and Kate Middleton were dating. Then there was Meghan’s biracial identity. “It was like the wild, wild west,” Markle said. “You had a noise level that was different.”
